Cloud-Native Platform Modernization
AWS Landing Zone, EKS and CI/CD for Efex
Efex is a Latin American fintech whose platform lets businesses collect, pay and manage their finances in one place.
To support rapid growth with enterprise-grade reliability, Efex engaged binbash to design and deploy a secure, scalable AWS foundation: a full AWS Landing Zone, multi-environment EKS clusters, and automated CI/CD for their Django API and React front-ends.
Scaling across Latin America without a cloud foundation
As their platform scaled across Latin America, Efex's team worked without a structured cloud foundation, without isolation between DEV, PRD and DR, and without automated deployment pipelines.
Key bottlenecks included:
No centralized AWS Organization, creating governance and cost-visibility gaps.
Manual deployments for a Django monolith and 3 microservices, with no container orchestration.
Four front-end applications deployed without a repeatable pipeline blueprint.
No disaster recovery strategy, leaving the platform exposed to a regional failure.
Five phases, every resource provisioned as code
binbash delivered SOW-002 in five phases, every resource provisioned as Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform and the binbash Leverage™ framework:
AWS Landing Zone: A full AWS Organization — Management, Security, Shared, Apps-Dev, Apps-PRD, Apps-DR — with IAM Identity Center permission sets, CloudTrail, KMS encryption and a secure baseline on every account.
Networking: Multi-account VPCs across mx-central-1 and us-east-1, peered, with Route 53 private hosted zones and a Pritunl VPN on EC2 for private access to every environment.
EKS Compute Platform: Production-grade Amazon EKS in Apps-PRD (standard nodes) and Apps-Dev (spot instances), running ArgoCD, Argo Image Updater, Nginx Ingress, Cluster Autoscaler and External Secrets on AWS Secrets Manager.
CI/CD Pipelines: GitHub Actions builds and pushes every back-end image to Amazon ECR; CloudFront+S3 pipelines deploy all four front-ends, with Slack notifications throughout.
Disaster Recovery: A full DR environment in a secondary region: RDS Aurora replica, S3 replication, an EKS cluster scaled to zero via ArgoCD, and DNS-based traffic failover via Route 53.
Acting as CTO, Cloud Architect and DevOps Lead
Acting with the capabilities of a CTO, Cloud Architect and DevOps Lead, binbash guided Efex's team through the modernization:
Infrastructure as Code & Leverage Framework: Every AWS resource provisioned with Terraform on the binbash Leverage™ reference architecture — repeatable, auditable, and transferable to Efex's own team.
Security & Compliance Hardening: Enforced MFA, encrypted EBS, S3 ACL lockdown, AWS Config organization-wide, GuardDuty, Security Hub and AWS WAFv2 on the API Gateway.
GitOps Deployment with ArgoCD: Every deployment managed by ArgoCD with Kustomize templates and Argo Image Updater, so image tags update from code alone.
A platform the team owns
Efex's engineering team took progressive ownership of the platform and now runs it themselves: a secure, automated, highly available cloud foundation, with deployments on fully automated GitOps pipelines instead of manual steps.
- ~95%
- Faster deployments.Hours of manual effort to ~5 min via automated CI/CD.
- ~90%
- Reduction in downtime exposure.Zero DR to ~15 min RTO with automated failover.
- ~70%
- Lower DEV/DR compute costs.Spot Instances on non-production EKS vs on-demand.
Delivered in five milestones
AWS Landing Zone: Organization, SSO, IAM, CloudTrail, KMS, VPNs and account baselines, within 4 weeks of project start.
EKS PRD + CI/CD: Production EKS, every pipeline, RDS Aurora, DynamoDB, S3 and API Gateway live within 10 weeks.
EKS DEV Environment: A DEV environment mirroring production, validated within 9 weeks of Milestone 2.
Disaster Recovery: EKS, RDS replicas, S3 replication and a tested DR plan, within 8 weeks of Milestone 2.
Infrastructure Hardening: GuardDuty, Security Hub, AWS Config, WAFv2 and the CloudWatch Observability Operator, within 3 weeks of Milestone 3.
Well-Architected, and built to scale across Latin America
binbash turned a fragmented, manually-operated environment into a secure, fully automated AWS-native platform, built on the AWS Well-Architected Framework and the open-source binbash Leverage™ reference architecture. Efex now controls its own cloud costs, deployment velocity and security posture, with a self-sufficient engineering team ready to scale the platform across Latin America.
